Pre-Adjustment Exercises

Another great exercise we can use to help with things like low back pain are some of our pre-adjustment exercises. This can help warm up the back, get some blood flow moving to the muscles helping to reduce pain and getting better movement. And also helping with things like adjustments and traction, we have a number of things that we use, but one of the best ones is our wobble chair.

Exercises Using the Wobble Chair

And this wobble chair goes right underneath the hips, you can put it right over on top of the chair. And this is where it starts to create a little bit of imbalance here forcing us to use our muscles and get into a more upright position. And what we want to do is we want to actually do a number of repetitions with a couple of different movements. One of the first ones is doing some rotations in the hip. We’re going to go clockwise and counterclockwise 10 times each before we do our adjustments. And what we’re trying to do is really open up our hips, move our spine and get our body moving into a better position. This will help wake the brain up and wake the low back muscles up to get us a better adjustment. Another exercise we can do moving in a different direction is extending and flexing our spine, doing a repetition here and here for a total of 10 reps right before we’re we’re flexing our spine. And then we’re opening our spine up and starting off slow and starting to accentuate that again will help move the spine in a different direction and help warm up the muscles and strengthen the core and the lower back. Another one we want to do is a lateral bend a side to side bend, doing 10 repetitions of both from side to side. Right here. Once our patients have gone through all three of those exercises, they can start to get adjusted.

This is a great tool to have in the office. But also it’s a great exercise that we can do at home and it’s part of our home care suggestions that we give to our patients to give them the best results in the shortest amount of time.
