Science proves that pizza is highly addictive. Pizza is the ultimate comfort food! Having a glass of wine and some pizza on a relaxing Friday night, snuggled up on the sofa with your sweetie watching your favorite movie sounds so good, right? Doing it in a healthy way with your organic whole wheat crust, your favorite organic cheese, and two toppings. I know this is the feast Jesus is going to feed me when I get to heaven! So why is pizza so good going down and yet the next day many of us feel a little hungover, tired and maybe even a little depressed. Why does it taste so good and why do so many of us crave it? 30% of the calories consumed in the United States are estimated to be from pizza and, unfortunately, I’m not talking about organic pizza. Here’s the deal… Pizza contains gluten (the protein in whole wheat or white flour.) And it contains a lot of it because as you remember pizza dough has extra gluten in it! There’s also the cheese, which contains a protein called casein. Here’s the addiction: Gluten produces gluteomorphins in your body (this sounds like another word “endorphins.”) Gluten actually produces an endorphin-like substance in your body and casein produces casomorphin. Have you ever walked through the cheese section of the grocery store and looked at all the different cheeses calling your name? They have your number, they lure you in. That’s your body’s casomorphin and gluteomorphin, even just thinking about cheese, thinking about pizza, starts to release these chemicals for many of us; caseomorphin and gluteomorphin. It’s time to come to the realization that grains in general, including whole-wheat, aren’t necessarily healthy for your body as outlined in books like “The Wheat Belly” and “The Grain Brain” by Dr. David Perlmutter, MD. When we choose to quit eating grains and dairy your body literally goes through withdrawal anywhere from 5 to 10 days on average. Paramount to note is that 90% of the effects of gluten occur outside of the digestive track so there is no bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea or belly aches.81% of the effects of gluten occur in your nervous system and credit problems from seizures, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADD, ADHD, MS and many other autoimmune type disorders. Some authorities from Cyrex Lab in Phoenix Arizona feel that close to 100% of autoimmune disorders start in the gut.Wow, so consider something seemingly as innocent as bad posture. We we know that bad posture has an extremely degenerative effect on the nervous system and contributes to the cause of autoimmune diseases like ALS and MS as outlined by Nobel laureate and neurosurgeon Dr. Alf Breig,MD.Our nervous system controls the function of every single cell in your body. Think about it. How does your heart know to beat, your lungs know to breathe, your ovaries know how much progesterone and estrogen to produce? All of that information is coming from your brain sending signals down the spinal cord, out through the nerves to tell every single cell in your body how to function. Obviously, it’s the intelligence that God placed in our brain so that our bodies would know what to do, every single cell would know how to function and what it was supposed to do and when it was supposed to do it.Through chiropractic care, you’re moving cells to kill and destroy cancer cells, viruses and bad bacteria. This is why in our office we focus on correcting bad posture, on getting your spine back into its normal position. We don’t just crack your back. In addition, we know that we have to work with your nutrition to get your body into optimal condition. These two aspects of your health are vital to create overall well being. Your nervous system and your biochemistry nutrition together with an intimate relationship with our Creator is one of the best, if not THE BEST formula for helping you to achieve optimal health.Lots of love,Dr. Doug Terry
