Neck Pain Relief At Home | Chiropractor for Neck Pain in Boulder, CO
Hey, Dr. Duff here. Today we’re going to talk about some of the therapies that we use and give to our patients that can help with things like neck pain, and headaches.
Neck Pain Evaluation and Assessment
So when we do our evaluation and assessment of our patients, sometimes we’re able to identify a subluxation or a misalignment in our spine, causing our head to come forward and lose that nice natural curve that we’re supposed to have in our neck. An example on this is when we take some X rays, and we do identify them and go through them together, we can see that the curve starts to move the opposite direction that it’s supposed to this occurs and things like bad posture over time with lash type of injuries and falls and things like that can cause it to happen. Now, there are things that we can do to fix this, contrary to what some medical doctors or maybe even some chiropractors think that you can’t fix those curves in your neck when we’ve actually proved time and time again, that we’ve been able to do it. And the adjustments and the traction. And the exercises that we do here in the office are massive for being able to get a chance at helping those. But there are still things we have to do at home because gravity’s working 24/7 against our bodies.
Utilizing the Spinal Orthotic for Neck Pain Relief
What I want to show you today is an example of one of the things that we can use at home, it’s just a spinal orthotic unit that we can lay on to help contour that shape of our spine. And it looks like this on the tables right here. And this provides support against our shoulder. And then this pushes right into the areas of the neck where we’ve lost our curve, and the head falls back over it like this. And our patients use it for up to 20 minutes on a hard surface in a very specific area against the shoulders in the neck to provide a spinal correction in this area. And it can help relieve that stress, accentuate the curvature of the neck, and it can really decrease the neck pain until so great. And we’ll start off with a short amount of time and then we’ll build up to about 15 to 20 minutes, and then we kind of roll off to the side. And the repetition of using this device, as well as putting it in the right place can help our patients get the best outcomes for neck pain and headaches.
