Fact-Checking A Chiropractic Myth – Once You Go To The Chiropractor, Do You Have To Keep Going For The Rest Of Your Life?

FACT CHECK…. True or False!

One of the more common myths about chiropractic is that – once you start, you have to keep going for the rest of your life.

The choice is always up to the patient when it comes to continuing care. Nobody is twisting anyone’s arm when it comes to bettering one’s health. Most of our patients understand the importance of maintaining their overall health once they have completed their initial care plan.

Let’s do a little comparison. For individuals with braces or know someone who has. The goal of braces is to align your teeth, which are just specialized bones. After years of wearing braces and having them adjusted again and again, the teeth become realigned and eventually the braces can come off! But, is that the end? NO! Now, every night for the rest of their life, they have to wear a retainer right? Why? Because if they don’t, their teeth are just going to go right back into their misalignment. The retainer is there to maintain the correction and protect the patient’s investment of time and money into the health. This can be very similar to continuing Chiropractic care.

Chiropractic Care In Boulder

It’s very similar in Chiropractic care. People come here with misalignments, pains and other health issues that cause physical compromises that can lead to a number of health problems over time. Our job as Chiropractors in Boulder is to locate the misalignment and ailments and make the necessary adjustments or apply the correct care to that part of the body to heal the body. Just like with braces, it takes time to achieve stabilized and desired results. That’s why Dr. Duff and Dr. Natalie takes the time to create individualized care plans for each unique patient. Once the care plan is finished, patients are given options for continued wellness care. Wellness care in Chiropractic is likened to the retainer after braces. This is where people are just popping in once or twice a month to be checked and only adjusted as needed. And, similar to a retainer, this maintains the correction and will protect the health of the spine and ongoing health.

It’s important to understand that it’s not the adjustment that gets people well, it’s maintenance over time that gives people their lives back.

So, when you come in to see our Chiropractors, do you really have to keep going for the rest of your life? Well, only if you see fit. As your health gets better, it’s a good idea to create a plan with your chiropractor to maintain health just like it is a good idea after having braces to wear a retainer. It is not a requirement however many patients see the benefit and choose to continue to receive chiropractic care to maintain their properly functioning health.
