What is Craniopathy and how does it work?
Craniopathy is the study and clinical application of the anatomy and physiology of the cranium and nervous system and its inter-relationship with the body as a whole. Its practice involves cranial adjustments that may be applied for the prevention or treatment of disease and also for health improvement purposes. These adjustments require assessing the moveable joints or skull sutures in the cranium, as well as the membrane that covers the brain and spinal cord, called the dura.
The sutures or “joints” on our skull allow for the cranial bones to expand and contract in synchronicity with our diaphragmatic and cranial respiration. When one or more of these cranial bones are moving improperly it is known as a cranial fault.
The most common cause of these faults is difficulty in the birth process. But people can also develop them later in life from traumatic accidents such as car crashes or blows to the head. Emotional trauma is also a known cause of cranial faults and should not be overlooked.
Symptoms that have a real solution
Cranial faults can cause many symptoms, from headaches and backaches to any other malfunction in the body. To correct the issues related, Dr. Terry will hold the patient’s head in a prescribed manner so that bones that are not meant to move are stabilized.
The correction is made by pressing on one of the cranial bones in a specific direction while the patient breathes in or out in a pattern that will assist the correction. These adjustments are rarely painful, however, they can sometimes create temporary emotional reactions. Often, patients report having no reaction at all or a feeling of relief and a release of pressure. Cranial adjustments by a certified craniopath have produced profound and dramatic results for many people.
