How does chiropractic help?
A frequent and overlooked cause of headaches is the malfunction of spinal bones in the neck and upper back.
When bones of the spine lose their normal position or motion, sensitive nerves and blood vessels to the head can be affected. When spinal nerves and related tissues are stretched or irritated, they can produce throbbing headaches. Aspirin and medications may cover up these warning signs, but do not correct the underlying structural cause.
Many people experience correction and relief through chiropractic care…
“I have been coming to your office for a little over a year. I initially decided to try chiropractic because I was out of options. I had been to numerous doctors concerning my chronic headaches that I had been having for numerous years. My doctor had tried to see if they were every different kind of headaches: tension, migraine, tumors, etc. I did MRI’s and CAT scans and nothing seemed to make any difference. I had tried taking heavy-duty prescription pain pills as well as going to physical therapy. The pain medicine didn’t make any difference and the physical therapy was only a temporary fix. My headaches would come back within a day or so of treatment. During this time I had also been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This was very discouraging. My stomach would always hurt; sometimes to the point of doubling over in pain. I would never have normal bowel movements anymore. It was very discouraging to my life. I would have to leave in the middle of classes to try to plan my schedule around when I thought I might have an episode. I often couldn’t plan accordingly and I would be late to appointments and even shifts for work or classes at school. I was at my wits end. I thought that I would have to live with these things for the rest of my life, and I was only 23 years old!
Well, now that you know all the yucky things, let me get to the good part. I started seeing Dr. Terry 3 times a week. As I consistently went to the office, I learned more and more about what could be causing the headaches and the Irritable Bowel. It didn’t go away right away, but as I continued my visits, I learned how to manage what was going on in my body. Now, about a year and a half later, my Irritable Bowel is practically gone! In fact, when I do have an episode it is probably about once in a two or three week period. The interesting thing about that is that I have learned what triggers my episodes and as a result, can regulate it better. It wasn’t what I expected either. The strangest thing that I realized that triggers it is when I drink any kind of cola. I love Cherry Coke!! But, in order to keep myself healthy, I stay away from it. My headaches have also gone away. As long as I participate in my traction at home and watch my posture, I rarely get them at all. I can’t stress enough how important traction is! I even suggest it to my friends when they have headaches. I now only come to your office 1 time per week. Through the x-rays that you have taken it has been great to see my progress in a pictorial fashion as well as feeling it for myself. Thank you for giving me the confidence to do the things that I love to do. I don’t have to worry now if there will be a bathroom in close distance from where I am. I don’t have to deal with the frustration of not relieving the pain. Thanks for all your hard work and effort to get me well again. You have been great as an educator as well as a doctor. You have allowed the power of my own body to heal me by the adjustments that you perform.
Keep up the good work!!”

“I want to thank you so much for making it possible for me to be free of my migraine headaches. When I walked into your office about three years ago I was suffering with from three to five migraines a week. I had been to medical physicians for tests and taken countless medications that helped only minimally. They really only covered the symptoms but did nothing to relieve the problem. I had also gone to see a couple different chiropractors with relief for a day or so only.
If you will remember, the day I came to see you (at the insistence of a friend) I informed you that I had no belief that you could help me anymore than the other professionals I had gone to. But, since the first day you treated me I have had one migraine. That’s in over three years! And, that migraine was within the first month of my visits with you. Not only have my migraines stopped so dramatically, but my overall well being was improved considerably as well. Thank you for what you do!”

When I first started seeing Dr. Terry, I was taking aspirin for headaches, valium for stress reduction, librax and lomatil for diarrhea, and synthroid for underactive thyroid gland. I was suffering from severe headaches which lasted for several weeks, diarrhea which occurred as a result of minor stresses, and a severe weight loss problem that took me from 125 pounds in one week and had reduced me to 112 pounds.
Dr. Terry diagnosed my headaches and intestinal trouble as being related to the curvature of my neck and spine. He recommended spinal realignment and food supplements to improve my condition. He later provided me with a diet plan to supplement the spinal adjustments. I followed the plan faithfully, even though I had to give up a lot of foods that I was accustomed to eating regularly.
I had a blood test which showed over activity in my thyroid. My family doctor, a General Practitioner, recommended that I quit taking my synthroid, which I had been using for 23 years. With the other complications I was experiencing, I asked him if I could quit all the other prescription medications. I had been using valium for many years and daily for the last two years. He agreed and we decided that it would be best if I took a leave of absence from my job.
The first day of my leave of absence, I stopped taking all the prescription drugs. During the previous week, I had modified my regular diet per Dr. Terry’s instructions. By this time, I was not taking any synthroid, valium, lomatil, librax, aspirin, or caffeine and I had stopped eating red meat and products containing white sugar or white flour. I felt a lot of discomfort from this program, but stuck to it. During this time, I wept frequently and repeatedly, without provocation. I was told by a psychiatrist that this was due to the valium withdrawal.
During the first couple of weeks away from my job, with three visits per week to Dr. Terry’s office, the diarrhea problem went away quickly. The headaches tapered off more slowly, becoming less severe and lasting for a much shorter time. The weight loss problem cleared up in about 10 days, as the synthroid had been causing my hyperthyroidism. My upset emotions took much longer to clear up, as my crying bouts continued to bother me for a couple more months. They were becoming less frequent and less severe, and six weeks after I had stopped working, I went to a banquet attended by 500 people and felt comfortable for the entire evening. This would have been impossible for me a few weeks earlier. This really improved my self-confidence.
I went back to work after being away for several weeks. During the first couple of weeks, my physical strength was low and my memory was poor. Even working at a low-stress job, I improved very slowly at first. I was still troubled by crying, but it was not too bad at work. I would still cry when I was alone, but I was definitely improving. I began to improve more rapidly and I was back to my regular job in one and a half weeks.
After three months for the time I stopped taking the drugs and stayed home from work, I only needed to visit Dr. Terry twice per week. One month after that, I began seeing him once per week. I have completely recovered from the headaches, the diarrhea and the crying. I sincerely believe that Dr. Terry’s help was crucial to my excellent recovery.
